India-Pakistan Conflict and the Ceasefire

India-Pakistan Conflict and the Ceasefire of 2025: A Critical Milestone

In May 2025, India and Pakistan made a significant ceasefire agreement which is likely to reduce tensions in South Asia. The agreement was achieved under the mediation of the United States, and both nations now accept “complete and immediate ceasefire.”

Background to the conflict :-

On April 22, 2025, a terrorist attack in the Bysran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killed 28 tourists and injured more than 20 others. The Pakistan-based terrorist group 'The Resistance Front' took responsibility for the attack. this incident, India expelled Pakistan's High Commissioner, carried out border attacks, and suspended the Indus Waters Treaty.

US Mediation :-

The intensity of this conflict caused global concern. Former US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on May 10, 2025, that India and Pakistan had reached a "complete and immediate ceasefire" with US mediation.

Shadow of challenges after the ceasefire :-

Even though a ceasefire was declared, India alleges that Pakistan violated the ceasefire within hours. This violation has raised questions about the effectiveness of the ceasefire.

Global reaction :-

The conflict has drawn mixed reactions globally. The United Nations has called on both countries to exercise restraint. Russia, China, Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates have expressed their willingness to play a mediating role in the peace process. All these efforts can provide a positive direction for establishing long-term peace in South Asia.
